Northwest Iowa's adventure in the country!
The story of our barn....
Our roots go deep into the soil around us.   The farm upon which the barn rests has been in the Halder family for well over 100 years.   Farming has been our life.
In 1989, a big change in our lives unknowingly loomed.   On an extremely cold and windy November night, a voracious house fire devoured our dwelling, all of our personal possessions, and nearly our lives.  We escaped into subfreezing temperatures stockingfooted and wearing only our evening clothes....
The following spring, after the burns had healed and we could once again think about our future, we decided to build a new house on the location of the original and begin our lives anew.   After considerable planning, construction began and the house was completed that fall.   We promptly moved in, excited to once again have a permanent roof over our heads.
Late that year, as the holiday season was nearing, we were about to be launched into a new venture.  A friend, knowing that we liked to cook and entertain, approached us about hosting his company's annual Christmas party.  We thought about it and decided that it would be an opportunity to do something we really enjoy and at the same time showcase our new home.
The party turned out well and we looked at each other saying "that was fun."   Word soon spread, the phone began to ring, and requests for meal catering started coming from everywhere.  We were in the restaurant business!
Within a few years, we realized that growth would require a spacious, dedicated facility, rather than trying to accomodate such large groups in our home.   One day we peered out the window at our dilapidated 1906 livestock barn, once well-known in the area for barn dances, and declared, "There is our future!"
To say that the barn needed help is an understatement.   We began in 1997.   The first step was to move the aged structure onto a new foundation, 70 feet east of where it originally stood.   With that accomplished, work began in earnest, with final completion coming in 1999.
Once finished, we moved the necessary furnishings into the barn and opened it to our guests.... and here
we are today!
